Shanghai: Transport and Getting Around

In the heart of Shanghai excellent provision is made for pedestrians. This intersection has lights to control the traffic. Many don't though - and cars come first. Not quite the same as New Zealand...
This is an entry to the Metro system in People's Square - which had several entry and exit points. The Metro system is very good. We each purchased 4 day Metro Passes which I think cost 45 Yuan - equivalent to about $10NZ. These worked as touch on, touch off - very efficient and effective.
Here's inside a typical Metro Train.
And again... these got reasonably crowded at rush hour... but seemed to cope well enough. Sometimes it was a bit difficult to tell where you were, and also which side of the platform to be on to go where you wanted to go. Not quite as well signposted as in Beijing...
And then there's driving in the street. Have a look at the video below. Gives a good feel of driving in the French Concession area of Shanghai.
This piece of video taken from bus as we went between case study areas in the French Concession part of Shanghai.

And then there are the elevated motorway sections. These appear so high in the sky that there is plenty of light cast beneath...
Extraordinary constructions...
