Joel is a Strategic Planner specialising in urban, infrastructure, and economic development planning policy. He has provided advice to project teams wanting a critical review of work in progress, or requiring a 'challenge team' input. In Auckland, Joel has taken a leading role in public policy decisions influencing transport, urban form and development, waterfront development, three waters, and environmental protection. His educational background is Physics, supplemented with a 2011 Masters in Planning Practice degree from University of Auckland where he has contracted (in 2011, 2012 and 2014) to lecture and coordinate various courses for the School of Architecture and Planning. He is enrolled for post-graduate research into waterfront planning. He is currently retained part-time as senior policy analyst for the New Zealand Planning Institute.
