When they first put the 14 metre McCaw Tron sculpture down on Queens Wharf as an attraction - it caused quite a stir. In fact people were scared to go down there. They had to put security guards at the perimeter fences. Some people even had heart attacks at the sight.
But after a while people got used to it. Quite liked it in fact. Made getting on and off the cruise ship a bit more interesting. In fact the photos people took increased visitors to Auckland's waterfront to an enormous degree. Every waterfront had to have one. But of course - there was ever only one Ritchie McCaw - and there ever was only one Queens Wharf that had been party central for the Rugby World Cup. It was the right part of the waterfront to place it. And put Wellington's tipping bucket sculpture in its place.
In fact when the Chinese Navy came to visit - because of a new sister CBD relationship that had developed between Auckland and the Shenyang Centre Business district - Auckland locals were more interested in the warships than the sculpture. But secretly, Aucklanders loved the waterfront McCaw Tron sculpture. A celebration of rugby, Ritchie, Rugby World Cup, and a big statement about Auckland's creative and multi-cultural spirit.

Perhaps the Transformer could be allowed temporarily onto Queen's Wharf to get rid of the Slug (aka the Cloud)

I like the way you think.... though someone might have the bright idea of putting it inside the slug - along with the rest of the transformed ABs - to justify the slug's continuing use of that space...
